  • Johannesburg - Former minister of law and order Adriaan Vlok and his security chief Johann van der Merwe have implicated former President FW de Klerk in their submissions to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Sunday Times reported.

Vlok and Van der Merwe were recently charged with the attempted murder of Frank Chikane, who is director-general in President Thabo Mbeki's office.

The newspaper reports that through their lawyers, the two men made submissions pointing fingers at De Klerk and his Cabinet, who allegedly approved their activities.

The newspaper report did not name the source of the information.

The NPA filed papers with the Pretoria High Court and the matter would be heard on August 17.

The charges related to an alleged plot to kill Chikane in 1989 when he was secretary-general of the SA Council of Churches when his underwear was lined with a poison.
