  • Engelbrecht 'not mentally ill'

  • Cape Town - Security guard Richard Engelbrecht was found guilty on Tuesday in the Cape High Court of the rape and murder of Mitchells Plain schoolgirl Annestacia Wiese, aged 11 at the time of her death.

Acting judge Richard Brusser rejected Engelbrecht's defence that his use of the drug "tik" had impaired his mental facilities to the extent that he was unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions.

However, Engelbrecht was found not guilty of raping a three-year-old girl two years before the Annestacia incident.

Instead, he was found guilty of indecently assaulting the girl.

    The hearing continues.
