  • Johannesburg - Western Cape police on Sunday night arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the death of a Mitchells Plain girl.

Superintendent Billy Jones said on Monday the man was a "close friend" of 11-year-old Annestacia Wiese's family.

The girl's body was found in the ceiling of her family's Woodridge home on Sunday morning. A neighbourhood watch volunteer found her after a family member asked him to search under the roof, said Jones.

The man was due to appear in the Mitchells Plain magistrate's court on Tuesday to face a charge of murder.

The man was allegedly the last person to be seen with Annestacia, walking towards a nearby school. Her mother last saw her at 11:00 on Friday when she went to the shop about a block away from her home.
