  • Johannesburg - Four men robbed guests at the Holiday Inn Garden Court opposite Eastgate Shopping Centre in Bruma on Thursday, Gauteng police said.

Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said four men driving a red Mazda 323, without registration plates, allegedly gained access to the hotel through the security boom gate at 11:30.

"One of the suspects was armed with a pistol. They robbed people who had just come from the airport of an undisclosed amount of money and their goods," said Mavundla.

Two of the robbers fled in the Mazda, while two robbers hijacked a navy blue BMW, he said.

"The driver of the BMW was shot at three times but was not injured. One of the robbers was shot twice in the stomach by a security guard," said Mavundla.

"The robber was taken to hospital - at this stage we are not sure which hospital. Once we find him, he will be under police guard and will face armed robbery and hijacking charges.

"The case will be handled by the organised crime unit," he said.

The hijacked BMW was later found abandoned in Southgate.

No arrests have been made as yet.
