Dog beats bird in unusual race

London - Four legs proved faster than a pair of wings when a
greyhound beat a pigeon in an unusual race.
The pooch, named Sleek Anthea Storm, sprinted the 87-yard (80-metre) distance on Tuesday in 5.3 seconds, outrunning his feathered competitor, Speckled Jim, by a full second.
The five-year-old pigeon, who had been unbeaten in 27 previous races, covered the distance in 6.37 seconds after a shaky start when he dipped into sand on the track at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, in south-west London.
"My dog is in the form of his life," said the greyhound's trainer, Brett Capaldi, after the race. "I feed him on a special diet of chicken, fish, and beef. He eats about a pound of meat a day and racing biscuits which are mixed with vegetable stock."
Speckled Jim's trainer Dave Sleight seemed unhappy with the pigeon's performance.
"We really wanted to run the race over 100 metres, but this was a better distance for the dog," he said. - AP
