Cybersex addiction causes 'splits'

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Addiction to cybersex is increasingly causing marital problems for some Malaysians, according to a report released on Thursday.

The addiction to Internet sex can cause couples to lose interest in each other, an expert was quoted by the Star newspaper as telling a population conference.

Ismail Tambi, director of the Specialist Reproductive Research Centre, said that in one case a husband was obsessed with pornographic websites and cybersex chatrooms.

"The wife told us that her husband was putting a lot of sexual pressure on her because of what he was seeing on these websites," Ismail was quoted as saying.

"She felt so uncomfortable and this eventually led to marital breakdown and infertility."

Ismail, whose centre is part of the National Population and Family Development Board, also said teenagers were obtaining a "warped idea" of the opposite sex through websites because parents fail to satisfy their curiosity.

This could be the reason for an increasing number of sex crimes against young girls and children, he said. - AFP
