Fox hunters to pussyfoot
11/11/2001 23:51  - (SA)

London - Stella McCartney, daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney and a strict vegetarian who refuses to sit on leather seats, is expected to ban fox hunting on her new English estate, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

McCartney has bought a farm in the middle of the Worcestershire countryside used by a fox hunt and overlooking a foot-and-mouth burial pit, where just a few months ago the stench of burning animal corpses caused outrage in the local community.

She is reported to have paid 1.8 million dollars for the working farm. When not working, she devotes time to causes such as the abolition of fox hunting and has also supported a campaign to ban the use of fur.

The fashion designer follows in the footsteps of her mother, Linda, who produced a range of vegetarian foods and converted her husband Paul to the cause before dying of cancer.

Stella's new property falls within the territory of the Croome and West Warwickshire Hunt, which has traditionally used the farm's land.

John Firkins, the joint master of the hunt, said: "In the past we have ridden through the farm, going from A to B, and the previous owners didn't object.

"Stella McCartney will undoubtedly ban us from hunting on her land. Now we will have to pussyfoot along the bridle paths at the bottom edge of the farm," he complained. - Sapa/DPA
