'Dirty-bomb' plot thwarted
10/06/2002 16:51 - (SA)
Washington - The US has foiled a "dirty" bomb attack.
Attorney General John Ashcroft announced on Monday that a "known terrorist" with connections to al-Qaeda had been arrested. The man had been plotting to build and detonate a radioactive "dirty" bomb in America, Ashcroft said. He said the man, a US citizen who was captured last month as he flew into Chicago's O'Hare Airport from Pakistan, had been turned over to the Defence Department as an "enemy combatant".
