Joseph Shabalala, leader of the world famous singers Ladysmith Black Mambazo, this week dropped a bombshell when he declared he believed he was the next target for his wife's killers.
His wife Nellie was murdered on May 15.
Shabalala said his son, Nkosinathi (42), who was arrested and is facing charges for the murder of Nellie, is innocent.
"He did not kill my wife," said Shabalala shortly after arriving in South Africa on Thursday from a month-long trip overseas.
Shabalala believes the arrest of Nkosinathi was a conspiracy by "certain people who want to destroy" his family.
He also dismissed allegations that Nellie's estate, estimated to be worth millions, was at the centre of a bitter conflict between his nine children and his late wife.
'The killer is not in my house'
Shabalala, who earlier denied there was animosity between Nellie and his children - especially Nkosinathi and daughter Cindy - admitted he bought Nkosinathi a house in Wybank to separate him from Nellie.
"That typically happens to all families. I know my son Nkosinathi is not involved in his mother's death. In fact, the killer is not in my house," said Shabalala.
City Press has also learnt the relationship between Shabalala's children and his late wife's sister, Ntombifuthi Zulu, worsened after Cindy laid a charge of theft against Zulu's son, Nhlanhla, whom she accused of stealing her television set.
Zulu is understood to be considering vacating her posh house in Kloof in order to avoid contact with Shabalala's family.
Shabalala said he was not aware of any conflict between Cindy and Zulu, saying he has not been informed of any developments since he returned from overseas.
'They're setting up my children against each other'
A family meeting was held on Friday but it was not revealed what had been discussed.
Shabalala's children at one time accused the late Nellie of buying Zulu a minibus taxi with Tshabalala's money.
"It is not true my sister bought me a taxi. But it is true she renovated the family house," said Zulu.
Shabalala said people who leaked stories about his family's problems were actually trying to divert attention from his wife's death so the killer could escape.
He confirmed Nellie was not the biological mother of his nine children, but said she had raised them as her own children.
"I know I am the next target of the killer. These people are now setting up my children against each other so they can easily get me," said Shabalala.
