Johannesburg - A few strategically placed salad leaves will be all that blonde Lisa Franzetta from California will be wearing when she distributes vegetarian sausages, burgers and schnitzels at the World Summit for Sustainable Development.

It will not be Franzetta's first attempt to show her disgust at the use of animal products as food or fabric for clothes in such dramatic fashion.

She has been arrested at Saks in News York because she threw a bag of "blood money" on fashion designer Michael Kors because of his use of animal fur.

She has also offloaded a consignment of leather shoes in front of the Indian embassy in San Francisco in protest against the use of the skins of once-holy cows.

Franzetta is on her way to Hong Kong, where she will take part in a festival of the leather industry and where she will make her appearance as a dominatrix in a synthetic outfit.

A statement by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) says Franzetta is conducting her vegetarian campaign in an attempt to convince the decision-makers of the world to become "green".

'Salad bowl' on duty at Nasrec

Franzetta says meat, dairy products and eggs cause "heart diseases, diabetes and several cancers".

Furthermore, she says, the meat and milk industries are two of the most destructive in the world, using up huge plots of land and doing irreparable damage to rivers and lakes.

"Many people know that being a vegetarian is good for you, good for animals and good for Mother Earth."

"We will show that it is good for your taste-buds as well," said the salad-leaf woman.

And, where can you enjoy Franzetta? She will be at the main entrance to Nasrec between 12:00 and 13:00 on Friday.
