Moscow - Gunmen holding hundreds of hostages in a Moscow theatre have released eight children, accompanied by representatives
of the Red Cross.
The Interfax news agency reported that the children had
been taken to a crisis headquarters set up near the theatre.
The agency quoted Dmitry Rogozin, chairman of the Russian
parliament's international affairs committee, as saying "the
children were released without any conditions".
According to Rogozin: "There is hope that in several hours
another group of children will be released."
The children were dressed in winter coats and appeared to be in good health. They appeared to be between seven and 13 years old.
NTV television quoted one girl as saying that she was fine, but
that she was worried about her mother, who remained inside the
theatre.
All of the children were being treated by psychiatrists,
psychologists and doctors, said Interfax. - Sapa-AP
