Two arrested for farm murder

Harare - Two people have been arrested for the murder of an elderly farmer in the Kwekwe area, about 300km southwest of Harare, a police spokesman said Thursday.
The body of Peter Sivertsen, who was in his seventies and believed to be of Scandinavian descent, was found by neighbours. They became suspicious when they saw his truck, loaded with his belongings being driven to the nearby town of Kwekwe in the Zimbabwean Midlands.
The Commercial Farmers' Union, said the crime was not surprising given the "current spate of criminal activity and general lawlessness".
A spokesperson for the farm union, which represents the remaining few hundred whites on the land following the seizure of five thousand farms, said she had no immediate reason to suspect a political motive. The alleged perpetrators were notorious among the local community, according to the union. - Sapa-dpa
