29/01/2004 20:02 - (SA)
Cape Town - A South African Communist Party delegation which visited Zimbabwe in December is urging the governing Zanu-PF and the opposition to jointly address the prevailing socio-economic crisis in that country, says South African Communist Party deputy general secretary Jeremy Cronin.
In a statement ahead of the party's first meeting of its political bureau tomorrow, it will discuss this matter together with the upcoming 2004 election campaign in South Africa and the party's approach to the Communal Land Rights Bill, said spokesperson Mazibuko Jara.
Referring to Zimbabwe Jara said: "The party delegation (which included Cronin and general secretary Blade Nzimande) which visited Zimbabwe during December 2003 will table a detailed report to this political bureau meeting."
"The Zimbabwean government and the opposition democratic forces need desperately and jointly to address the prevailing socio-economic crisis, and they simultaneously need to contribute to more favourable, climate-creating conditions for a political settlement", said Cronin, in a report to the bureau.
Other reports the PB meeting will receive include a report from the party delegation which attended the World Social Forum held in Mumbai, India recently.
