  • Cape Town - Brenda Fassie's family will say a private goodbye to the popular diva during a service at her home in Langa, Cape Town on Saturday morning, before allowing her many fans to bid her farewell at Langa Stadium.

Family spokesperson Boy Fassie said on Friday that Fassie's body would arrive at her family home just after 07:00 on Saturday.

"There will be a private service at her home for family and invited guests."

The family would then travel to the stadium to prepare for the public service - which would start at 10:00 and run until 13:00 - where her closest friends would pay tribute to her.

President Thabo Mbeki was also expected to make a few remarks.

"At 13:00 the family will accompany Brenda to the crematorium. Only the family will go there, while a musical tribute will be held for her at the stadium."

Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Thandiswa Mazwai and Jimmy Dludlu were among the artists who would be performing at the stadium.

Mbeki paid tribute to Fassie during his state-of-the-nation address on Friday, saying she had "passed away much earlier than should have been the case.

"Perhaps while she was among us, we did not fully appreciate how much her talent served to enrich our lives.

"But now we know, too late to do anything to bring her back to give us joy," Mbeki said.

Fassie died on May 9. She had been in a coma since suffering heart failure following an asthma attack two weeks earlier. She was 39.
