Mpuma gets new DG

Nelspruit - Advocate Mmeli Soko has been appointed director-general of
Mpumalanga province from 1 October, premier Ndaweni Mahlangu
announced on Tuesday.
Sixty-five candidates applied for the position and five who were
short-listed were interviewed by a panel comprising four members of
the provincial executive council, a rector from Fort Hare
University and a community leader.
Mahlangu then took into consideration the recommendations of the
panel and the executive council in making his selection, premier's
spokesperson Sbusiso Shube said in a statement.
Soko has been employed by the Mpumalanga government as deputy
director-general of the department of safety and security since
February 1996. Prior to that he served in the national Department
of Justice.
