Two killed for 'witchcraft'
30/11/2000 12:32 - (SA)
Lagos - Two people have been killed apparently for ritual purposes and their bodies dumped by the roadside in southern Nigeria, an AFP correspondent said on Wednesday.
The correspondent saw the bodies, a beheaded male and a female missing several body parts, close to the side of the main road from Ibadan to Lagos.
The bodies had apparently been there for several days.
A police officer alerted to the bodies said he was aware that they were there but it was not his responsibility to investigate or to remove them.
Killings for ritual purposes take place regularly in Nigeria where belief in witchcraft remains widespread. Body parts are used in "charms" and amulets believed to have magical powers. - Sapa-AFP
