Dogs skinned for fur trade?
23/01/2001 19:55 - (SA)
Budapest, Hungary - The skinned carcasses of dozens of dogs have been found hidden in
plastic bags near a cemetery, an official said on Tuesday.
The medium-sized dogs - most probably short-haired - were skinned
in a professional way, said Attila Berei, head of Fejer County's
veterinary service. They were found in the central city of
Szekesfehervar.
"This leads us to the assumption that the target was their skin,"
he added.
Newspapers reported the skin of the dogs was possibly exported to
Italy for the lucrative fur trade market, but Berei said there was
no evidence to support these speculations.
Police were investigating.
