New Delhi - At least two people were killed in a bus bomb blast in the northern Indian holy town of Rishikesh on Friday as the country was celebrating its 51st national Republic Day, the Press Trust of India reported.
Police official S.S. Baghel said the bus conductor and driver were killed instantly in the 2.00am bus explosion.
Baghel said the blast occurred after all the passengers had left the bus.
Rishikesh is a Hindu pilgrimage town about 200km northeast of New Delhi. No one has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast.
Security has been stepped up across India for Republic Day following threats by several separatist rebel groups to stage deadly attacks. - Sapa-AFP
