Thank you Colleen 25/01/2008 09:33
for saying what many people are feeling.I couldnt believe the stupidity of people boycotting his funeral just to protest against his portrayal of a gay cowboy. Really, in this century can people not show tolerance to others?? These people should be ashamed - its pathetic. Heath should be remembered for his great acting, and not persecuted for it. - Saddened |

Will be remembered 25/01/2008 09:36
Not a Hollywood follower I was neverthless extremely upset over Ledger's death. This is truly a loss to the mankind resources pool. As to the homo stuff, I don't agree with homosexuality but it is a reality here to stay and attacks on these people do anger me. Once they are gay they cannot go back and any oppression on any person or animal infuriates me and also makes me afraid. I will support their rights to the hilt. Goodbye Heath, you are already missed. - msedena |

Honour Heath in his death 25/01/2008 09:45
I agree. After all, whatever our religion, we only have on Judge that really matters and He's not from here. No-one can stand in judgement on this earth because we will be judged in the same way when we eventually die. - Fairisfair |

Small-minded idiots 25/01/2008 09:45
Within hours of the news of his death, the sms's were already flying - making jokes about the supposed way he died and his role in Brokeback Mountain. Come on people ... get a life. - Chez |

Oz Icon 25/01/2008 09:53
Heath was not only a Hollywood star, but also an icon in Oz, his home country. Please watch the Oz art house film Candy, in which he plays a heroin addict. Stunning. The man was a brilliant actor. Who cares if he played a gay character in Brokeback. It was a movie about forbidden love and had a universal theme. Homophobes are sooooooooo five minutes ago and last Christmas. Shame. - Herman Lategan |

In Memory Of Heath Ledger 25/01/2008 09:53
Thank you, Colleen, for your article. I truly can't find the right words to express my utter annoyance and disbelief at the stupid mentality of this minority (I hope!) of people. One would think the human race has evolved somewhat, but it doesn't appear to be that way. The fact that Heath was not a homosexual and that this group of people then turn to attacking a homosexual character that he portrayed, honestly makes my jaw just hit the ground with force! - Melbalina |

The world will miss him 25/01/2008 09:56
He was a brilliant actor!
Those idiots should really go ahead with their boycott.
Nobody wants people like that around when you are mourning the death of such a wonderful guy and celebrating such an intense young life!
He will be missed by many. - Lee |

So what! 25/01/2008 09:57
I find it ridiculous all the attention that this death gets when there are plenty other people mourning the deaths of loved ones the world over. Why does he deserve any more admiration than someone who works hard to provide for their family in an ordinary job. Get a life people, focus on your own family. They can go at any time. - Scotty |

God frowns upon Homosexuality 25/01/2008 09:58
Never saw Brokeback Mountain. I am not interested in gayness. It is sick and no matter how much you and your gay-loving cronies jump up and down it is just plain wrong so get over it! We cannot judge. The Almighty will always have the last say no matter what who thinks, says, or does. I hope you don't present yourself as an 'intellectual midget' by denying me my opinion. We shall see... - European-African |

Shocked 25/01/2008 10:03
Again I'm shocked this week, first by Heath's death and now to hear about these small minded people, they obviously got nothing beter to do in life than to bad mouth others. My Mom told me if you don't have anything good to say about someone keep your mouth shut. The only thing that gives me peace is the fact "that he who judges will be judge". RIP Heath you will be missed. - Lee |

Those against Heath 25/01/2008 10:04
The group that want to picket at his memorial etc are a mindless bigot bunch from the Westboro Baptist Church, who protest at all soldiers deaths and are so anti gay, black, muslim, British, Yanks etc etc they are scary. Check out the name via google, they make hillbilly's look tame. A small minority, ignore them they go away. RIP Heath, my daughters are saddened and I am even watching 10 Things I hate about you again with them. Daz - Daz |

hell yeah 25/01/2008 10:05
homosexuals represent approximately 10% of the world's population. this number has stayed pretty consitent throughout the ages. and they have been consistently persecuted. maybe it's time they went on the rampage. maybe then they'd stop being treated like the scum of the earth.
thanks for voicing what many people think. - jeaninec |

Rude 25/01/2008 10:11
I hated those jokes as well, he was a brilliant actor. I realy don't see why your conclusion of those homophobic comments was that people were thinking he is a "doos". You're very rude. Besides thats not a homophobic word thats very much a sexcist word. - Mike |

A great Actor, a loving husband and father & son 25/01/2008 10:17
I rarelly have been so saddened by a Hollywood Actor's death. His movies gave me such pleasure. The animated face in "A knight's Tale", sheer enjoyment. I have seen all his movies, and only hope to buy all of them.
To his parents, daughter and all of the millions who loved him, rest in peace Heath. No matter how many lunatics rant and rave drivel, you are at peace, oblivious of the minority insain people out there. God forgive them. - Alicia |

Intolerant Society 25/01/2008 10:23
The hypocrisy of the christians astound me,
whilst they hysterically proclaim that
homosexuality is immoral, they find no
problem with oral sex, which is not a sexual
method used for pro-creation either.
Sexuality is a private matter between two
consenting people and has nothing to do
with anyone else.
This anti-gay hysteria reminds me of the dark
ages, when women and children were burned
for being witches, it's scary and reflects
very negatively on the progress of society. - heksie |

A Cinematic Icon 25/01/2008 10:46
Ledger with Brokeback Mountain will be remembered....in a 100 years they will talk of him like Brando....in 200 years too they will talk of him..as the great original breathtakingly brilliant Ennis Del Mar..
Im just so glad that he did brokeback and that we all- his fans and admirers- had this great oppurtunity to feel so intensely moved by a movie (which movie does that anymore these days?)...the miracle of brokeback will live on...and so will the legendary memory of the great ledger.. - Deepak, Delhi. What a loss 25/01/2008 10:50
So much talet, I watched Brokeback Mountain and I cried for the hardache that so many people, woman and gay people, who cannot get out of the closet and stay married or in a relationship that they do not want, go through. This is what is happening in the world on a daily basis. I also watched the movie A knights tale about a hundred times. This was a great actor do not blacken his name and memory with unfairness. He was just acting. Heath you will be remembered by millions for your acting. - Bokkie |

Small Minded People 25/01/2008 11:00
My heart bleeds for his family and friends - who have to read/hear/see all these things that are being said about him. How much more difficult is it for them to grieve with all this hype? The Small Minded People out there who doesnt know the difference between a character and a person - may you all loose your children - that is how strongly I feel about this. Let the man rest in peace and give his family the time, space and privacy to grieve. - SC |

Heath Ledger 25/01/2008 11:39
Nice one European-African - feel that Christian love! Why is "gayness" wrong - because the bibble says so? It also says we must stone people who work on the sabbath and that slavery is acceptable.
If you'll excuse the irony - thank god I'm an atheist, although in fairness to religious people; I assume this does not represent the views of the majority. - Matthew Bossenger |

Heath RIP 25/01/2008 11:40
It does not surprise me any more that people (who are not supposed to judge other people, according to their religion) are the ones that judge the quickest. I experience it every day with all the "christians" around me! Stop judging and respect people for who they are. - RK |

Robert de Nero played the Devil in Angel Heart 25/01/2008 11:42
Will the hardcore, conservative, extremist, fundamentalist Christians also picket his memorial services when he dies? Hey, if they want to be consistent in their wonderful and all knowing Christian righteousness, they would have to picket the memorial services of every actor which has committed a sin on-screen, in their view. It is simple: Some people hate homosexuality and they use their religion to *prove* how *wrong* it is. - LM |

Hats off 25/01/2008 11:43
HATS OFF to you, Colleen! As a lesbian, I was beyond disgusted at Jacaranda's "COOL DJ's" who played a phrase from Brokeback Mountain, and then started giggling uncontrolably, so much so that one could not understand what they were saying afterwards. Pathetic that grown-ups can find it so amusing. Heath was a great actor, and will be worshipped for his talent! To the homophobes & bigots out there, thinking that we're 'taking over the world...' WE ARE!!! - Ollie |

A Ledgend lost 25/01/2008 11:58
The Human Race is so predictable. No sooner is an icon dead, and they are being defamed and analyzed beyond compare. Why can't people just accept the choices he made and respect him as a person. Mind your own business and if you don't agree with a role he played in a movie, then find a pencil to break. As for people who are angered by people like us who mourn the death of a celebrity, well...once again...acceptance, what a wonderful word. - mac |

Cowards 25/01/2008 12:02
I would like to challenge the Westboro Baptist Church to start boycotting BBM co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams, or picketing at events where they're present - oh, of course, that's not possible - they're still alive and can defend themselves and would be able to send this lot packing - back to whichever vomit-filled hole they crawled out of. Leave LH alone, man. - js |

Heath Ledger 25/01/2008 12:27
Your comments on what the Christians have to say about Homosexuality is correct as it is an Abomination in God's eye's.(Lev 18:22
22 ?You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
(NKJ)
God loves each and every human being but does not like the sin that they are committing. The Bible has all the answers and the movie "Brokeback Mountain" should have never been made. Read Romans 1:22-32 and you might understand what we are trying to say. - Vernon |

Heath Ledger 25/01/2008 12:28
One only has to imagine what Heath Ledger had to put up with from the public and the media for playing a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain. However, he was a talented individual who made an unfortunate mistake by accidently over-dosing. I also would have liked to see another Knight's Tale 2 as the soundtrack was exceptional, but alas the prince is no more, what a waste of a brilliant gift. Is Heath this era's equivelant of James Dean without the bad boy streak? Who knows. - Wendy |
