Who are you going to kill?
24/06/2008 13:01 - (SA)
David Moseley
I get confused easily. I was fine at four plus four, even four times four was manageable during maths. But then they got all technical and started adding Xs and Ys and train stations and Adam carrying five apples who gave three to Neil, who needed to reach B with Ashley before getting off with Lucinda at A.
I got the gist of Shakespeare, Yeats and Tennyson, but then my English tutors said the tree with golden leaves wasn't really a golden-leafed tree at all and wanted to know the meaning behind the flowery language.
Then people said that they wanted to kill for the president of the ruling party, but that's not what they meant after all. Like an episode of Murder She Wrote, it's all very bewildering.
What I would like to know, even he if didn't mean it "literally", (which is a cop out deluxe, because nine times out of 10, if you say something once you've definitely thought about it twice. It's like asking your girlfriend for that darkly deviant sexual favour you've always wanted to try, only to mumble something completely different when she looks at you aghast and asks abruptly "you want to what? There's the door. Bye bye?") is who Mr Malema (and his pal Zwelinzima Vavi) would like to kill? And for what reasons?
As reported, ANC Doofus League President, Julius Malema told a Youth Day gathering that, "We (I assume he includes himself in that royal "we" and not just the saps who will be sent out in the first wave of murder and pillage) are prepared to die for Zuma. We are prepared to take up arms and kill for Zuma."
Soon after, Vavi echoed the sentiments, ranting into his cornflakes, "Because Jacob Zuma is one of us, and he is one of our leaders, for him, we are prepared to lay our lives (sic) and to shoot and kill."
Who, what, where?
What, or who, is it that these two cowboys want to kill? And why is it necessary to kill for a man who is already in charge of the ANC, and who will no doubt be president when the next general election rolls into town?
Do they want to kill rabbits in their leisure time? Then that's cool, though I might suggest they start with some of the rats that live in Cape Town's CBD (except McRat, who lives outside my house. I feed him chili-poppers and beer, so I'd hate to see him go). Then again, the SPCA might get up in arms about that one and issue a sternly-worded press release.
Would they like to exterminate a particular portion of society? Are they after Salman Rushdie?
Do they want to kill the evil white people that suppressed the growth of the African continent back in the 1600s? Perhaps they'll take a few pot shots at the last of the Mozambicans and Somalis as they hop over the border fence, shredded South African flag in hand. Is it a herd of cows that they are so willing to execute in honour of the president-in-waiting, because that's A-okay too?
Is it the murderers, the rapists and other thugs serving time who they'd be happy to fry in an electric chair. It's all just too vague, and all so unnecessary. If the two of them had simply stipulated their intended target the media backlash would be so much less, and the people, persons or animals concerned would know to go into hiding.
Next time, Mr Malema, when indicating that you are a "passionate supporter" of Mr Zuma try saying "I am a passionate supporter of Mr Zuma". It might go down with less ire in a county that is surely reaching it's tipping point on headlines with the world "kill" in them.

LOL... 24/06/2008 13:21
David, what a delightful piece! I laughed out loud. They say it is a good sign if we can still laugh at ourselves!. Not that I missed the point. But watch some racist political sewer rat come and bash you on the head with this. perhaps we should all start looking for cover seeing as the intended victims still need to be identified. - Vicky |

Hard to cop out... 24/06/2008 13:22
Of what he uttered, not only was he stupid enough to say it once, but happily repeated his intentions on 702 the next day. Even funnier, was a leading ANC spokesperson denying outright that he had made the statement - even after the fool had repeated himself during the radio interview. What a three ringed circus!! - Sarah |

Hmm, GENOCIDE comes to mind when the main idiot jumps around and sings about his machine gun. Read the papers and see how many whites get shot, stabbed and murdered followed by the "no arrests have been made". Here's a fun fact! We are all dead. - Doomedwhite |

Unit.... 24/06/2008 13:36
Well done man, this is one of the nice article i've ever read. It shows that the ANC leaders are united to such an extent that they are willing to sacrifise all for one another. This kind of unit is very powerfull and should be respected, if u know how to get read of apartheid. We as South Africans should learn that we need to be encouraged to feel the same way about what we want. We must be prepared to die for our country. We can build a STRONG NATION. - Mlu |

Possible reasoning 24/06/2008 13:43
Precisely my question!!Seems our politicians are in a contest of their own to see who can best come up with a statement to affirm their stupidity.I can just see it now, "Er comrade,I am dumba than you. Proofread this. I want to say it in front of the hol world on tha most importent day that marks our his tory.Zuma and mantu have had dum bast polatishin title for too long.Neva, neva and neva again will that title be theyars." - almost black and wishing i wasn't |

I also had "special" ponder-time over this one 24/06/2008 13:46
I believe it's the new "youth-lacking-experience" image the ANC wants to portray after a few elder ones made fools of themselves. Showing that young leaders do make irresponsible statements and lack the "great, subtle, struggle" experience needed to govern the country in a "anti" dictatorish way. Please mind my sarcasm... - ElectroMan |

Another perspective 24/06/2008 13:47
In a press briefing and in reaction to the statements by Julius Maleme the ANC spokesperson Uyaba Uyidonki said:
?The ANC wants to make it very clear that the organisation distances itself from any calls to kill people, even if they are apartheid sympathisers, evil forces opposing the revolution, colonialists, Imperialists, white racists or imperialists?
?Reports that comrade Julius Malema threatened to kill or to have anyone killed for preventing or trying to prevent ANC President , comrade Jacob Zuma, from becoming President of the country, are entirely false and making by the white owned press? Uyidonki said
?It is suggested in the press that comrade JZ when comrade Malema made his statement JZ jumped up and started singing Umshini Wami is a downright lie? he said whilst waving his wooden AK 47 above his head.
?The only time killing was mentioned at the rally was when comrade Zuma said people in the ANC that are misbehaving will be disciplined by killing them with love and affection? Uyidonki said.
?This expression of love was repeated by comrades Vavi, Malema and Mathembu which shows the deep felt love for comrade president Jacob Zuma?. He concluded.

Kill for ? 24/06/2008 13:51
Obviously the logical targets are within the ANC government. Who else is a threat to JZ? It will also be any educated person (judges, lecturers etc) who can separate a person from the government or ruling party and view his conduct objectively. - Birdman |

Dangerous rhetoric.... 24/06/2008 13:52
This campaigning for positions of power in a Zuma government by Malema & Vavi is very dangerous indeed. It's the wanton use of the word 'kill' that results in us seeing one too many human torches as seen recently under xenophobia that reduces us to barbaric savages - Alice |

Obvious who they would target. 24/06/2008 14:06

why do I have to make noise about JZ and malema?ag this whole kill nonsense is being blown out of context...what am i going to gain at the end of the day...just making noise,I am not againts jz becoming the president if he wins the elections...therefore malema and vavi wont kill me..period.. - Kolobe |

Yesterday we were called criminals. Today we called idiots. Well, now I beleave my 1st year lecture who once said "We are all idiots and crazy in different ways". I can see y one can think a person who holds the highest position on the country is a morron, and that the one who stoped rasism is an idiot. Now u c, You just an idiot as I. Yeah Cos, I refuse to fall for racist I am an idiot. I also agree that because I can kill for my country I am an idiot. - Nqo |

We need a new law 24/06/2008 14:24
We need a new law stating that any person who takes his or her politics so seriously as to be willing to kill for it, should be prohibited from ever partaking in politics or holding public office.
And as punishment they will be incarcerated until such time as they have memorised "Love and War" and are able to recite it uninterrupted in front of an audience of octogenarian Tourette's sufferers. - Darwin |

@Mlu - you poor misguided fool 24/06/2008 14:25
The "struggle" is over, there is no enemy. Your paranoia is blinding you. There is no reason to stand together against some imagined threat. I think the majority of this nation needs some major councelling and a massive group hug. The only reason you would kill for your leader is if he is a dictator and the population must be subdued into accepting him. If we are indeed a democracy he will only get there by the support of the majority, if this is so, there is no need to defend his position. - Karen |

The Media 24/06/2008 14:38
Julius and Vavi have tried to clarify what they mean't but as usual the media(news24 included and the columnists)have blown this issue out of proportion. The media and those who have their hidden agendas PLEASE BACK OFF, there are issues of great importance that we need to deal with, not statements that are quoted out of context. - Paul |

Here's who he wants to kill.... 24/06/2008 14:47
Based on a News24 interview with Mr Malema he said of people who prosecute JZ:
"Forces of darkness. They are people who move only in the night, you can't see them. The imperialist forces are still involved."
Definition, imperialist: the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas;
In other words, white people. He has a grudge

Must be another misquote 24/06/2008 14:55
Good stuff. Isn't it terrible how JZ and his supporters are always being misquoted, quoted out of context, mistranslated or misunderstood. They are obviously being deliberately harassed and persecuted by all those counterrevolutionary racist scum trying to ruin their reputations. Excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall. Could we please get some intelligent leaders in this county? - marna |

let's talk hidden agendas 24/06/2008 15:22
Malema slipped up and uttered something only discussed behind closed doors. Once Zuma is in power, civil war will break out - that's what he was talking about. there's a target on my white ass. perhaps the same thing was talked about at the blacksonly journo forum? and maybe they want it sooner rather than later so let's stir shit and cause xenophobic attacks to get Mbeki to step down? - tired |

Killing for JZ! 24/06/2008 15:27
What a nation1 As leaders I guess it is important to choose words. To blurt out without thinking shows how shallow minded these two are. You can not use such rhetoric words especially this time when pple are being killed as if they were flies. Is their vocabulary limited to killing what a shame? - toe |

Kill, Kill, Kill 24/06/2008 15:34
These are our leaders of tomorrow. What they are saying is exactly what Mugabe's monkeys are doing at this moment. And still they have no food or gained any medal of honor. Guess what by killing your neigbours just because some one said so, you are killing yourself in the long run. If there's no one left to kill, no more food or water to feed you, what will become of you? Why do they always believe that killing wil fix everything, when will they learn from their neigbouring countries mistakes. - Mrs M |

Group Hug 24/06/2008 15:37
I agree with Karen, Malema and Vavi just need a great big group hug. However, i wouldnt get too close to Jacob "who's your daddy" Zuma without the appropriate precautions ... - Ian |

RE: Current situation 24/06/2008 15:38
The article is brilliant. Satire at its best.
Thing is, some people respond and say he/she/IT was misquoted and everyone wants to blame them etc. Hows about this, I grew up with having to deal with APARTHEID. Not the best thing on earth. I am NOW IN A FREEE COUNTRY. Guess what though, APARTHEID, made me feel more free than now. No crime, woman and children were safer from rape and being beaten. I slept with the windows open and NO BURGLAR BARS. Wake up peeps.Back someone competant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Duran |

DAvid - you misquoted yourself ;-) 24/06/2008 15:40
Although I know you didn't do it intentionally your paragraph about slaughtering a herd of cattle reads like you mean it is just as ok as shooting some Mozambicans Somalis as they hop over the border fence - I know you didn't mean it that way but some idiots won't - otherwise spot on. Why do we need a Youth League anymore anyway? - manci |

"unafrican" 24/06/2008 15:48
Dont forget, the xenophobic attacks were very "unafrican", albeit that that kind of near genocide has occured in just about every corner of our poor continent. But dont worry, harming, maming, and shooting to kill people who vote against a certain regime and or person is also turning out to be quite an "unafrican" phenomenon. So we should all be fine, povided we continue ignoring the other progressively "unafrican" notion we call democracy. I know what youre thinking... democracy who? - Simo Mabuza |
