The Zuma Dobermans
06/02/2008 09:04  - (SA)

Want to know more?
Answerit can help.

Max du Preez

So the 37-year olds of the ANC's so-called Youth League want to deny the rest of us the privilege of being able to buy a glass of wine with our Sunday lunch in future, and they expect "their" Parliament to write that into legislation in the next few months.

The Youth Leaguers do these things because they can. They're the Zuma Dobermans. They were the first to stand up on a stage and call the country's president ugly names. They were the ones who heckled and booed one of the stalwarts of the struggle against apartheid, Mosioua Lekota, at the Polokwane jamboree.

Jacob Zuma and his sidekicks owe the Youth League. Zuma even snubbed his parliamentary caucus to be able to speak at a Youth League function last week.

But we don't, we being the rest of South Africa. We owe the Youth League nothing but scorn. Zuma might need political hooligans to get into power, but we don't have to tolerate their childish antics and take them seriously.

King-maker

The leader of the Youth League, an ageing yuppie called April Mbalula (he calls himself Fikile nowadays), sees himself as a "king-maker" and has high ambitions of cabinet positions (and a fat black car and other perks) once the Zuma faction has completed their power grab.

I think it is time for the mantle of "Kortbroek" to be passed from Marthinus van Schalkwyk to Mbalula. Van Schalkwyk is, after all, one of the more hard-working and efficient (and quiet) members in the cabinet. But if "Kortbroek Mbalula" doesn't roll off the tongue, how about "Snotkop"?

Mbalula is also one of the forces behind the ANC demand for a media tribunal that would control all newspapers. Last week the Youth League demanded that the ownership of the media be broadened, and no doubt they will insist that it be pushed through parliament.

I have been watching the Youth League and listening to their leader's crazy utterings for a while now and I have to say that they don't have the vaguest idea of the nature, composition or role of the media in South Africa.

No serious politicians

Ironically, the Youth League would not exist if it weren't for the media. Mbalula and his cronies are always good for an outrageous statement and too often inexperienced and/or lazy journalists fall for the temptation to give them publicity - not because they're a legitimate or significant voice, but because their statements are fun or sensational to read.

The Youth League always parades as champions of democracy. If only the understood the basics of the concept. They clearly still think democracy means if you have 50 percent plus 1 of the vote (in the party or in an election), you can call all the shots. Thus their silly call for parliament to quickly implement their demand of no liquor on Sundays. (By the way, when did the Youth League become a Christian organisation so concerned about the Day of the Lord?)

What is next? Are they going to demand that parliament abolish Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika and replace it with Umshini Wam as our new national anthem? Are they going to force the education department to introduce toyi-toyi classes instead of maths?

The time has come for the serious politicians in the ANC to whip these wannabe politicians back into line. They're an embarrassment to the ruling party. Give them all jobs at Eskom, I say.

Send your comments to Max.

  The 'Youf' League
06/02/2008 09:42
On the money, Max. What I find disturbing about this bunch of cretins is how many of them make it into positions of power in the ANC! Is this done to keep them quiet? - Garth

Normal racist drivel from du preez, but
06/02/2008 09:59
I must say that there is merit in the suggestions concerning the national anthem and toyi-toyi. It is about time thet minorities in this country went with the flow and took some real Afican Culture onboard! - saliem

  ANCYLLY LADS!
06/02/2008 10:02
Max, that was an echo of what many of us feel (April, old fella, people are allowed to have differing opinions in a democracy ...)!

I am also curious ... how does a 37 year old man qualify as "youth"? I am MOST pleased if the 30-40 year bracket is still seen as "youth", cos then I am not yet over the hill! Excellent!

On the choice of 'term of endearment' for Mr Mbalula ... why not respect him appropriately and simply call him "April"? ONLY a thought ... Viva politicomedy! - Cynicus

  DRONKIES
06/02/2008 10:05
The overuse of alcohol in our society has contributed directly to the decay of our moral fiber. Alcohol also contributes to most of the motor vehicle accidents on the roads and can also be directly link to the violent nature of people in our society. It has become normal for families on a Sunday to have a braai with beers and sometimes even something stronger - what have happened to the days when families attended church together and after church to have a nice family lunch with mom dad and all the children sitting around the same table. I for one do make sure that this is a tradition in my household to ensure I do not lose touch with my children and my family. I believe the legality of alcohol needs to be revised as drugs like dagga cocaine and other illegal drugs do not contribute as much to the lack of morality in our society than what alcohol does. - colin

  Scary Stuff
06/02/2008 10:07
What is the most frightening, is that they are the future leaders of the country... Lets hope that they will have something left to destroy after Zuma is done with this country... - Jacques

  Saliem, comrade,
06/02/2008 10:07
You may find it useful to look up a little on Max du Preez's history. Additionally, try a dictionary for a definition of "racist" ...

None of this is about COLOUR OF SKIN ... it's about understanding the rules of democracy, abiding by them, and so on.

Have great, tolerant, democratic day! - Cynicus

  Careful now!
06/02/2008 10:08
Watch out Max! Some of your old buddies will be baying for your blood pretty soon! I fully agree with you though. The ANC Youth League add absolutely nothing but increased levels of militant mindsets to the political arena. Saliem: Where the hell do you get off? Unfortunately the world sees African culture as being permeated with corruption, deceit and cronyism. Zuma/Mbeki/ANC contributed to this unfortunate perception. Toyi-toyi instead of maths classes won't fix it. - LJE

  Something I never expected
06/02/2008 10:08
Today I'm going to see something new, you max is going to be called a racist. How dare you tell the truth about Comrat Snotkop. LOL thanks for starting my day on a funny note, your statements is very true but still funny. Thanks - padkos

I took the liberty of going to the website of the youth league last week.I was impressed by the policies and was utterly dissapointed by the forums and the people who post there. They reminded me of another group of elders called Cosas leaders whose sole purpose is to disturb education.I am sorry but I as a youth can not be associated with these organizations and their dim-wit leaders.I have lost all respect for the youth league and I am fast losing respect for her mother as well. - Kingster

06/02/2008 10:14
Is Toyi-toying the finest example of African Culture u can put forward Saliem, OMG there is no hope for SA, and before u run me down as a rascist and blame the old whipping boy called apartheid, I grew up in Cofimvaba in the East Cape where true Ubuntu ruled and Toyi toying was only used when running long distances, if African Culture is no electricity, crime, no fresh water, destroyed health services, a joke of a education system, corruption, no responsibilty from goverment then keep it Dude!! - Mike

  Racism
06/02/2008 10:16
to even think that Fikile should be called by another english name is downright stupid and racist. As for the national anthem we still need to drop the 'extended version' - mambushu

  Tell them
06/02/2008 10:16
You are right. they just want to get a better seat on the gravy train! I can still remember them complaining about the setup in rugby, even though they didn't have a clue. Sounds like the same tune! By the way, isn't there an age restriction on the "youth leauge"? - Johann

  SO PATHETIC MAX
06/02/2008 10:20
You are an angry liberal that you stoop SO low to call the youth LEAGUE DOGS. Why are you bitter Max??? In Australia, New Zealand where some of your friends want to emigrate to, these laws are being practised. What is wrong with RSA having these similiar laws. I think you should RE-read into what MBALULA said again. You are twisting facts. What kind of a journalist ARE YOU? You are further confusing the THE YOUTH LEAGUE BASHERS. Your article is paramount to hate speech. - Vusi

  Dronkies - Colin
06/02/2008 10:22
Colin, I am offended by your desire to force your views on others. If you don't want to drink don't, but do not presume that you have the right to infringe on others' rights to do what they choose. By your logic perhaps you might offer a better solution by banning driving on Sundays to reduce accidents. - Trojan

  Embarrassment
06/02/2008 10:23
Indeed, Max, the ANCYL is an embarrassment to the ruling party. And to the whole country! But then again, Winnie and her women's league aren't much better either. Neither is the ANC's association with the SACP or COSATU. It's just a pity that for writing your article, you're going to be called a racist... I know better, I've followed your journalism for 20 years. Keep it up! - Mark

  Comrade Snotkop!!!!
06/02/2008 10:25
Thanks for putting a smile on my face, Max! Don't always agree with your wiggery comments, but this time you are right on the money! (PS: I believe Mbalula's birthday is 1 April? Hehehe ... ) - Witblitz

  April Mbalula
06/02/2008 10:25
On the button,MAX. Fikile was so ashamed with being a fool (April)he changed his name. Was'nt he the person who used ANCYL money to buy his mother a million rand house? Last time I checked, being a youth was in the age group of 18ish BUT 37? I am sure the gravy train is running low, so now we go and stand in parliment to get more gravy. Listen you cronies, give us back SA and let us enjoy it when men with honor ran it. - Fatbuoy

Well said Max. Kortbroek April. The name fits him like a glove. Viva Kortbroek April Viva!!!! - DannyS

  delusional
06/02/2008 10:30
Fikile "wannabe a youth still" Mbalula who takes great pleasure in telling everyone what their business should be, should grow up, stop clinging to his mommy's (see zuma's) apron strings and get an original thought for a change, one that is reasonable, like resigning from the youth league and going to play with the big boys, which is where his age dictates he should be!!! Are we still going to be reading about Fikile, the 50 year old leader of the "youth" league??? - Jack

  Have you lost it?
06/02/2008 10:31
Are you nuts? Don't we have enough problems with Eskom already without adding the illiterate kindergarten of the ANC? Why can't they concentrate on things that make sense, like educating "the youth" on morals(e.g. stealing is wrong, @$$-kissing is NOT a virtue). Oh, I remember now, they are children themselves & haven't mastered the art of logical thinking yet! (or just thinking, for that matter) - Nel

  Love the SAN's
06/02/2008 10:33
Well its got to be the SAN (South African National). Man you guys area joke. Lucky i completed my studies before the university cook and dish. How does a 30 something know about what the teenagers think (forgot he probably has many sweet litlle things around him). you guys need to wakeup to the following facts 1. Apartheid era is gone 2. the strugle is over 3. Society always has low ranking and the rich 4. Its not the fault of the current "white" SAN's that there was the apartheid. - dude

  Yeah!! Right
06/02/2008 10:34
I guess the 37 year old clown,Has now grown tired of the sunday drinking sessions and braais."spoil it for the other 'real' youth why dont i." - wanda

  ANCYL
06/02/2008 10:35
Why dont Mbalula, Kodwa and the rest of the FOOLISH bunch prohibit ZUMA from having more wifes and children,,, and leave us the HELL alone with our Sunday drinking session.... this people are bored - CAREFUL

  Youth League make me cringe
06/02/2008 10:36
Max you hit the mark as usual. The YL are certainly one of SA's biggest embarassments. They are an ill disciplined group of renegade hooligans and I hope that zuma drops them now that he has used them for what he wants. - Siphokazi

  Why.......................
06/02/2008 10:36
....does Zuma choose the youth league? Because he is an adult between children and a child between adults ! He is so clever because he speaks their "language" to demand, toyi toyi, this is how he operates, and if we as SA Citizens allow this "CHILD" to run this country before he passes "grade...?" we are in for hard times ahead of us. I'm all for change, but there is no place for a youth league, only for serious politician who take it serious to make our country a better place for all! - annie

  hahahahha... yup,
06/02/2008 10:37
Max, you and I should run the league. - Brandon

  Get serious, Max!
06/02/2008 10:40
And what's wrong with you so early in the morning, Max? You are not serious if you think we will spend our time responding to a column about an uneducated fool called Fickle Mbalula. It's people like you who make the likes of Mbalula feel good by always taking them seriously. He already knows next time he says something, newspaper columns will grasp his comments and have a field day. Stop it now Max!You can't be serious! - Sello

  Fikile
06/02/2008 10:40
What about Fokoli Mbalala? - Harry

  TROJAN
06/02/2008 10:41
I believe that the removal of alcohol in it totality from our society will most defiantly improve the lives of all South Africans ? a reduction in the levels of violent crimes, fewer road accidents and a increase in our GDP and higher levels of economic growth. The cost associated with having alcohol as part of our society is much higher than the benefits we derived from it - colin

  Why Mambushu?
06/02/2008 10:41
Why do we need to drop the extended version? One good reason, which comply with our nations few of forgiveness and accepting each other with our individual faults and showing us that you are part of the new South Africa, and not holding on to the past, but rather going forward. - Curious

Please someone out there get rid of April Mbalula!!!!
06/02/2008 10:41
We are sick and tired of this old man who still calls himself 'a youth' Can someone out there fire the bastard? He talks garbage everytime he opens his trash can. Lucky, - lucky

  Abelungu
06/02/2008 10:44
Why am I not surprised, Max sound more like your Boer Pa, at least the very ANCYL can suggest something from their heads and hearts and oupas like you will find it easy to discredit instead of being original.... How about you taking this topic three week before and proposing liqour be sold everyday including in your churches,,,,, remember the best drunkards are mainly those of your colour & during your time we (Blacks) were denied this on Sunday if at all allowed, now cant quit this way of life - "Mlungu " Victor

  OMG!!
06/02/2008 10:45
Why do so many of you jump to racism? It is foolishness of the highest degree and shows your limited ability to see beyond your own nose. We are living in a country where the nation needs to come to terms with itself. We live in a country where Democracy is an ideal we all want to bring to fruition... and Democracy is held in the hands of open debate. The "youth league" are not our government. They are NOT our leaders. They do NOT hold the power in this country. So how can they feel it is their right to tell me whether or not I can have a drink on Sunday? That smacks of the old regime in itself - where are they coming from? Ban alcohol on Sunday if you wish, you "youth", I'll just stock up on Saturday!! Cheers! - Goodness Gracious

  Thank You Max!
06/02/2008 10:45
Thank you Max, you have spoken for the people! - Andre

  Irrelevant
06/02/2008 10:45
I as a young S.African(22),find the Pres's demands totally unreasonable and irrelevant. Are we now required to join a church??? - wanda

  prescribed drinking hours.
06/02/2008 10:46
The only countries in the world who restrict the use of alcohol are the Islamic countries (based on faith) and some of the old English colonies. The latter still suffer from antiquated Victorian rulings, which are generally pathetic. The same organisation (ANC) calls for legislating of prostitution during 2010 to make (tax) money. Why not encourage drinking 24/7: makes even more money! - Benzo

If at 37 this Yuppie is a youth, when will he grow-up? This is a joker club? - Realist

  ''Old'' Youth League
06/02/2008 10:48
There are more pressing issues facing the youth of today, & yet the ''Youth League'' is focusing on matters that are really irrelevant to them. They are just a bunch of attention seekers who are gearing themselves for cabinet positions under their puppet JZ. If they think most of the youth in RSA are taking them seroiusly, I pity them. They must think again(if they do have brains to think)! Well said Max. - Ricky

  Objectively...
06/02/2008 10:49
I agree with colin, the guys at the ANCYL might be on to something. To curb alcohol abuse & in doing so also curb the moral decay of our society, which is linked with the spread of HIV/AIDS, drastic measures need to be taken. The country's youth (regardless of race) is out of control, face it. Besides, nobody said not to drink on a sunday, it should just not be sold, u hav 6 whole days in a week to go get that sunday bottle of wine.... - Fox

  Witwolf du Preez
06/02/2008 10:50
Max how dare you rise you voice against the ANC? How dare you as a white liberal do that! haha! I can see that type of comments coming your way. But nice article, about truely weird and funny "young" man. I always enjoy his comments. Goes down well with a bottle of red wine and Sunday paper. But I think it is time to take Snotkop serious. He is on the ANC's NEC, he is stepping down as leader of the ANCYL, so he is positioning himself for bigger things next to Zuma. So...lets wait and see. - McPhisto

  crying racist again
06/02/2008 10:52
Anytime you can't find a reasonable response to soemone who ahs a different point of view you resort to calling us racist. Can't you provide a reasoned argument for a change. Racist is a very serious label and misusing it to hide your own shortcomings is an insult to people who have really suffered racism. By the way I don't know when you went to NZ or Australia, but I go on business quite alot and they have no such laws. - HB

  anc youth league
06/02/2008 10:53
Being a JZ fan, I admire Mbalula and ANCYL a lot. However, I totally disagree with them on their call to ban alcohol sales on Sundays. Why would parliament pass a narrow minded legislation like that? ANCYL needs to realise that people have got different choices, and they mustn't impose theirs on us, including religious beliefs. Being Christians themselves doesn't mean we all belong to the same religion. Wake up and face reality my brothers!! - bheki

  Vusi .. tsk ..
06/02/2008 10:53
You seem to be very emotional about Max's writings. Help me here ... what laws are you referring to in your comments concerning "similar laws"? Vus, it's ok to say you are disappointed in "X" (where "X" is whatever disappoints you). That doesn't make you bitter - it's an expression of feeling. Have a good day! - Cynicus

06/02/2008 10:54
I am glad that news24 is monitoring these comments. I suggest people who are quick to call others racists should have their comments removed - it is hate speech - HB

Just buy your booze on a Saurday
06/02/2008 10:54
I will still stay at home and have a single glass of wine. That will not make any difference to the roads, the driving I will not be doing and the violent behaviour I would not have. But thanks anyway Colin for your dumb point of view that you seem to be forcing down our throats. - anamarie

  These Over-age pricks
06/02/2008 10:55
Agree with 100% percent. "...has high ambitions of cabinet positions (and a fat black car and other perks) once the Zuma faction has completed their power grab." These OVER-AGE pricks are just out to get these black cars and "above average" govt perks rather than be a voice to raise out concerns relevant to what the YOUTH have to say. We have far greater things to worry about than having our privelege(s) taken away. PS-Kulula shoud have used him (April) on the Lanseria Airport billboard. - Shaun Miyen

  What is hate speach
06/02/2008 10:55
When we have an effective united opposition that can truly offer an alternative to the incompetence of the current and impending government or a truly democratically elected powerful ANC Government. Then maybe we can look into the varsity of selling of liquor on Sunday or legalising prostitution. The government can?t even get basic amenities delivered to the people and we want a wannabe bunch of kings trying to dictate what I as an individual am or am not allowed to do on a Sunday, when they can?t even find effective leadership. Were are the true leaders of the ANC (proper stalwarts of the ANC) and were is THE powerful opposition party. I say let the two Godzilla?s unite Delill and Zilla. Dan jy sal sien die poppa dance. Good read Max. - Gary

  Day of the Lord
06/02/2008 10:58
Saturday is the day of the lord the 7th day. SA need to turn their backs to the world and turn to Jesus Christ. Pagans selebrate sunday as their day of worship of the Sun. Constantine created (Author of the new Bible "Origen": Pagen Worshipper) the "new" Bible that was suppose to reconsile Christians and Pagans. Why do you think their is 1200 changes made to your Bible in the last 60 years? To break down the deinty of Jesus Christ. You are being blinded by the lie of the world. - Clifford

  SUNDAY DRINKING
06/02/2008 11:01
Issues Such As the Scorpions disbanding and Sunday Drinking should be put on referendum SO we know what the majority of South africans want (Note South africans not BLACKS OR WHITE). I recently think decisions of the NEC do Not represent what the majority of the people in this country want. REMEMBER THE ANC IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE PALIARMENT OF THE PEOPLE AND NOT OF FEW INDIVISUALS. FIKILE IT IS NOW TIME TO PASS ON THE BATON WE DONT WANT ANARCHY IN THIS COUNTRY. - EUGINE

  alcohol and society's ills
06/02/2008 11:01
Alcohol is indeed a problem, but at least get some wisdom from the rest of the world on how to deal with it. Australians are known for their drinking, but they don't drink and drive like we do. The kinds of things that work are enforcing the already existing good laws we have and taxing alcohol so it's not so cheap. - HB

06/02/2008 11:04
Isn't it funny that when there is a purely political conversation / argument going on here, there are always one or two idiots who throw the race card around??? Get over yourselves, grow up and then maybe the adults will let you join the conversation! - no colour

  Another bunch of idiots!
06/02/2008 11:08
They are and always will be the biggest group of racists under the sun! Yes, the real political parties need to whip them back into place where they belong! Let the real political powers please stand up!!! - Big R

  "Mlungu " Victor ... you're serious, aren't you?
06/02/2008 11:08
Victor (Mlungu? eh?) ... "the best drunkards are mainly those of your colour" ... grow up a little Vic! Who brought colour into it? The underlying issue with alcohol in almost all developing areas is the clash between indigenous and Western cultures. And I hate to disappoint you, but alcohol abuse knows no racial boundaries

Bheki, we may not agree on everything, but your posting is an example of what DEBATE is about! Well said! - Cynicus

  short memories
06/02/2008 11:09
In the bad old days we had a govt that told us when we could drink, where we could live, who we could love - do we want to go back to that? It didn't work then and it wont work now - viva shebeens ! - HB

  oh boy
06/02/2008 11:09
I am sitting in a sunny cafe in Dubai where I have been living for the past year, God forbid I be called a 'when we', but I fear I am slipping into this mode. I am a regular reader of Mr Du Preez's columns and this time he has it spot on. Youth League? Well thats a joke. From this far away corner of the world, I would like to quote Alan Paton's line 'Cry the Beloved Country'. Michael B - Michael

  Alcohol and Prostitution
06/02/2008 11:11
Lets rather legalise prostitution and ban drinking on Sundays...or maybe if these people went to bed earlier they would wake up more clever and not come up with such stupid comments! I'm sometimes embarrased to call myself a South african. - JDMC

  Easy now Max
06/02/2008 11:14
You can't blame the anc youth league for they way they are. They are victims of their own success.Like everything else in this country they too have been perverted. They do not represent the youth of south africa only a failing party. They are lost for direction just like you and me Max.The drivel they spew is only a wart on the witches nose.Easy now Max they're just kids - Psycobabble

  Two faced

Max du Preez i suggest you revisit your columns of the past. Were you not in the same bed with these hoodlums in vilifying Thiboz, calling for his head? You were busy employing the notion "my enemy's enemy is my friend"Well you all have just about gotten rid of the best thing we had in the last few years.look what we have left.be careful of what you wish for you might just get it - Mara

  The youth league
06/02/2008 11:19
Thanks MAX for just telling it like it is. I think that the youth league should go to bed earlier so they can grow up and become clever. In their case i am not sure if sleep will help but what the heck, let them sleep, i think that will be the only smart thing they can do. Why don't the ANC put a ban on the Youth league ever speaking in public, they are not only an embarrassment to the ANC it self but also to the rest of the Country. - dee

  Sunday laws
06/02/2008 11:20
Strange that, in the post load-shedding era, there are still folks who cannot see that command economies don't work. As to Prohibition, the USA experiment led to the golden age of gangsters. Now that Brett Kebble's gone, maybe Mbalula has shares in a shebeen? - Colin B

  Knowledge is Power
06/02/2008 11:29
Why is it that we as African people always refer back to the "Racism Card" when we cannot come up with a resonable arguement. It just shows up our own ignorance and racism. We now live in a democratic country and are no longer living under apartheid or the "struggle", so lets stop reacting as if we are still oppressed. Jabu - Jabulani Mboweni

Just a thought, but I never see alcohol sold on a Sunday anyway, so what is all the fuss about? - Nick

  RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITY
06/02/2008 11:37
Every RIGHT comes with a corresponding RESPONSIBILITY - most alcohol users in this country is not responsible drinkers as they drink and drive commit crimes beat up woman and children ? so before you drink yourselves to death remember be responsible and respect others. - colin

From your responses I sense that you have no idea what you are talking about. The alcohol business is a cash cow and your brothers are all in the BEE seats, you go tell them that their cash cow must stop. Get real please. You are very good at the degrading every article with the same apartheid rubbish, why not be positive and write something that you believe in. I for one think that you are over the edge man. - Realist

  April
06/02/2008 11:43
As a black S. African, I find it embarassing that ANC and its alliance represent corruption, what ever happened to the Albert Luthuli's and OR Tambo's and the others who fought for equality. I think these Zuma'a and April's steal more from us than any Apartheid Government could ever steal.Info, how do you think some education institutiions in KZN had been accredited, guess who was MEC for Education and who was given a good B'day party at the ICC KZN- birthday gifts dont need to declared. - Zuma

  On the dot, Max!
06/02/2008 11:44
I agee 100% with you Max. I was reading a letter not long ago by a fellow who claimed all of us writing this colums are racist and a mouth piece for the DA because whe have never anything good to say about the government and the ANC. Well reading you're colum I could see once again, there is nothing good to say about the ANC. At least the DA don't use their Youth League to do the dirty work for them! - Andre F

  go away colin
06/02/2008 11:45
Colin who do you think you are? Some of us like our alcohol and some of us enjoy it responsibly, to even suggest to remove it from our society is just plain arrogance, if your out dated christain beliefs are behind this then I suggest you read something else other than the bible! - Justin

  Alcohol
06/02/2008 11:45
Name one reason to make alcohol legal at all,Name one good thing it does (Besides relax the weak minded who need an escape from reality). It adds to every crime, and turns a decent person into a disgrace. This is one of the few things the ANCYL have said that makes any sense. No doubt they're a bunch of half-minded airheads but people who can't handle no alcohol for a day or finds it a big problem, might want to go check themselves into an A.A as soon as possible. - B.Z

  booze is colour blind
06/02/2008 11:52
Alcohol abuse sees no colour broer. An entire adult population in Alaska was almost decimated by alcohol, dumped on them by westerners. Unfortunately the same happens in every township in Mzansi, where SAB and Brandhouse advertise alcohol on every street corner. We should not be surprised. - Bra Darkie

  ANCYL
06/02/2008 11:57
Well... 567 Cape Talk pointed out that the League had 2 spectacular parties in the past with a free bar at the one. Maybe they have learnt their lesson and decided to avoid the crushing hangovers on Monday mornings..?? Could it be that they are trying to right their erring ways?? I think not. Another prime example of a minority trying to force their opinions on the rest. Have we, as a South African nation, not had enough of this already? - Theunis

  Grow up
06/02/2008 11:58
Well said Max. The ANC and ANCYL have the abillity to be a great political party for all the people. But it seems political in-fighting, self enrichment, lazyness, incompentence and political propaganda for self gain have overtook the party and what they used to stand for. I'm sure Madiba and old ANC stallwards must be very proud. - Andre

  ANCYL
06/02/2008 12:00
Max, write about what you think is useful for RSA. ANCYL has put forth its original thinking and here you come with all your venomous attacks. Suggest a national topic and invite us for feedback. Do not waste our time with your ANC hatred. Be man eneough and admit that ANC and its components make you sick. - Max

  Spot on Max
06/02/2008 12:01
You see Max you won my support on this lines and thank you "They were the first to stand up on a stage and call the country's president ugly names. They were the ones who heckled and booed one of the stalwarts of the struggle against apartheid, Mosioua Lekota, at the Polokwane jamboree"..any kind of disrespect of the country's president should be condenmed!!no matter how passionate one feels about their reasons..Disrespect againts the elders of the movement cannot be tolerated.. - kolobe

Who said e won't drink on Sundays????
06/02/2008 12:01
Unlike Mbalula, I am still young and black and I tell you what, if this law gets passed, we'll just stock on Saturday! He wouldn't know though as he is way past that stage!!! Big fool!! Everytime he opens his mouth he does not represent me! - Ludz

  Banning alcohol on sunday

I fully agree with what the ANCYL said. Cde Fikile you are 100% correct. Max's article stinks - kwena Mapoulo

  unfortunately..
06/02/2008 12:05
I agree with you about the snotkop sentiment, but power the ANCYL does have. Even before the Zuma era, guys like Markgraaf (who had an embarrassing history as an exposed racist) made a deal with the ANC Youth legue which saw Markgraaf rising to prominence in SA Rugby again.ANCYL is a powerful mafia, and one of the reasons I am becoming increasingly concerned about SA's future. - kwk

  Youth Leaugue
06/02/2008 12:06
I agree with you Max...the youth league begins and ends with the Media. Bury them!! They are insane and irresponsible, gung ho, self centered and clearly not very bright....they would make good foot soldiers in war...sadly for them there is no war. Zuma and your youth league: stick your machine guns where the sun dont shine and dance your way into the hearts of those who buy your rubbish...the rest of us dont buy it!!! - Barry

  ANCYL

The 'league will always be in a position to influence government. For as long as they can lead our "leaders" by the nose, that is... Funny how our presidents (past and present) have no power to stop them. I wonder who is really running this country. - HRS

You can accuse Max OF anything but not racism. As a black person who lived through apartheid i know Max's credentials. If u were still small then, ask other people who were old then. - Godfrey
