  • Los Angeles - Michael Jackson was named "loser of the year" by People magazine on Monday, capping six months of embarrassing stunts that included an attack on the boss of his record label and his notorious dangling of his baby out of a Berlin hotel window.

Among other contenders for the dubious honour were singer George Michael, actor Robert Blake and 'N Sync star Lance Bass.

But none could match the strange antics of the man nicknamed "Wacko Jacko", whose repertoire included branding Sony boss Tommy Mottola a racist, taking his two oldest children to the zoo wearing veils and a court appearance with an apparently-disintegrating nose.

The full list reads as follows:

    1. Michael Jackson
    2. George Michael
    3. Trent Lott
    4. Lance Bass
    5. Liza Minnelli & David Gest
    6. Princess Anne
    7. Janet Reno
    8. Phil Donahue
    9. Rob Lowe
    10. Robert Blake. - Sapa-DPA
