New York - Folk duo Simon & Garfunkel and salsa king Tito Puente are among the five artists to be feted with lifetime achievement awards for 2003 from the Recording Academy on Wednesday.
The kudos, to be formally acknowledged on February 23 at the 45th annual Grammy Awards in New York, will also go to blues diva Etta James, legendary balladeer Johnny Mathis and late swing bandleader Glenn Miller.
Meanwhile, the Academy also conferred Trustees' awards - intended to honour the contributions to the music world of non-performers - to the New York Philharmonic symphony orchestra, as well as renowned musicologist and engineer Alan Lomax.
An Academy representative noted that, while the Philharmonic is a performing group, it is being honoured mainly for its contributions to advancing musical culture and preserving music history.
