Sydney - Chris Martin, lead singer of rock band Coldplay and boyfriend of Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, is to appear in an Australian court after allegedly clashing with a photographer on a popular tourist beach, a newspaper reported on Monday.
The British band played at a music festival in the northern New South Wales beach town of Byron Bay over the weekend.
Freelance photographer Jon Lister followed the singer to nearby Seven Mile Beach on Sunday and took photos of 26-year-old Martin and his entourage surfing, Sydney tabloid the Daily Telegraph reported.
The frontman emerged from the water furious, demanding Lister erase the photos from his digital camera, the report said.
During the fracas, the windshield of Lister's car was smashed and the air let out of his tires.
A police spokesperson said a 26-year-old Englishman had been given a notice to appear in Byron Bay Local Court on October 8 to answer an allegation of malicious damage, but refused to confirm Martin's involvement in the incident.
Paltrow is in Australia with Martin, but she was not reported to have been present at the time.
The band is due to play at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan later this week.
