Radiohead three times lucky

London - British rock quintet Radiohead were voted the world's best band at the annual Q music awards on Thursday, giving them the prize for the third consecutive year.
The band - whose recent sixth album "Hail to Thief" has been praised by critics both in Britain and the United States - beat Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blur to take the award, chosen by readers of Britain's Q magazine.
But the magazine may not have got the thank you they expected when Radiohead declined to attend the ceremony, sending a video message instead. The film was soundless but in type at the bottom of the screen it poured scorn on the magazine for branding them "miserable." The short video ended with the line: "Radiohead aren't talking to Q."
Chart giants Coldplay had received the most nominations for the awards - up for best single ('Clocks'), best video ('The Scientist'), and best live performers as well as the top prize - but were the surprise losers, missing out in every category. Coldplay were also no-shows at the ceremony.
Christina Aguilera did jet in from the United States to pick up her best single award for "Dirrty."
"It's about time Dirrty got some love. Thank you to Q for recognising the woman with the balls to make this video and loving every minute of it," she said, referring to the raunchy video that accompanied the song.
Electric Six won best video for "Gay Bar" and Robbie Williams' sell-out gigs at Knebworth in southern England earned him the best live act.
Blur won best album for "Think Tank," while The Thrills picked up the best new act award.
The Cure won the inspiration award for their influence on music and Duran Duran picked up the prize for lifetime achievement - just as they did at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York in August.
