Bordeaux - An oil painting by Dutch post-impressionist Vincent van Gogh that was discovered at a French flea market is now expected to bring millions at auction, a French art expert said on Thursday.
The painting of a farmer and a horse ploughing a field was purchased 10 years ago at a flea market in western France for €1 500.
The work, signed "Vincent" in red, has been certified as a genuine Van Gogh and could bring at least €3 million to €5 million at auction on December 13, an art appraiser told French television TF1.
At 45 centimetres by 30 centimetres and painted on wood, the piece is believed to have been painted by a then-30-year-old Van Gogh in 1883 for his younger brother, Theo, who supported his career until the artist's suicide seven years later.
The painting's current owner has remained anonymous and provided no further details about its humble acquisition. - Sapa-DPA
