Record label drops 'Murder'
05/12/2003 07:42 - (SA)
New York - US record label Murder Inc, which markets the rapper Ja Rule and the singer Ashanti, is dropping the word murder from its labelling as it is no longer believed appropriate, the company said on Thursday.
Label owner, Irv Gotti, said the company will be known as "Inc" instead.
"He's grown, he's got children, there's a healing that is needed to be done," a company spokesperson said in reference to Gotti's decision to change the label's name.
The label's image has been dented in recent months due to the rivalry between Ja Rule and the rapper 50 Cent.
People in both artists' entourages have died violently and an inquiry has been opened into Inc's finances.
However, the company's website murderincrecords.com still carried a murderers' gallery of the label's artists, shooting targets and yellow police tape on Thursday.
