Picasso sets new record

London - An engraving by the Spanish master Pablo Picasso entitled the Frugal Meal sold at auction for a record £621 250, Christie's auction house said on Wednesday.
The 1904 etching representing a destitute couple is an important work from Picasso's so-called blue period - and on Tuesday became the highest-selling engraving in history, Christie's spokesperson Matthew Paton said.
Collectors particularly value pieces from Picasso's bohemian early days in Paris, when he was still struggling to establish himself.
The German art dealer Heinz Berggruen, a 90-year-old patron of the arts and a personal friend of Picasso, acquired the work, which he intends to include a collection in Berlin.
