Sydney - British pop star Sting arrived in Australia on Tuesday for a concert tour that that will include an evening where the proceeds of ticket sales will go to help victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami that struck on 26 December.
The former lead singer with 1980s pop group The Police said there had been a "tidal wave of compassion" for those who suffered in the catastrophe.
"I think we have an opportunity here to raise a lot of money for the tsunami relief," Sting told reporters in Perth after arriving from India.
"One of the great things that has come from this terrible disaster is that we have rallied together, pulled around and realised that we are one planet, we are one family," Sting said.
The 53-year-old will perform two for-profit concerts in Perth and one for charity. - Sapa-dpa
