Tsunami heads for big screen

Bangkok - Thailand will be the location for two tsunami movies and a CBS documentary on the disaster, earning the kingdom an estimated two billion bath (about R323m) in revenue, news reports said on Wednesday.
Warner Brothers will soon shoot the tsunami-inspired Rescue Dawn in Thailand while United States producer John McTiernan of Die Hard fame, is planning another tsunami flick called Rider on the Storm, Tourism, Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Juthamas Siriwan told The Nation newspaper.
CBS is also planning to film a four-episode documentary focusing on Thai Princess Ubolratana, who lost her US-born son in the disaster.
The three companies will invest an estimated 2.3 billion baht (about R370m) in production costs in Thailand, said Juthamas.
An estimated 5 400 people died in the December 26 tsunami that crashed into several Thai beach resorts along the Andaman Sea coast. More than 160 million died in Indonesia.
