London - Britain's leading tabloid Sun newspaper suggested on Monday that Irish rocker Bob Geldof should be earmarked for the Nobel Peace Prize 2006 following the success of the global series of Live 8 concerts.
"The world owes him a debt of gratitude", the paper said about the 53-year-old Live 8 organiser, ranking the singer alongside former South African President Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa.
"Through his determination, energy, vision and moral courage he has twice pricked the world's conscience with lasting effect", the Sun wrote.
Geldof, in an interview with the Mirror newspaper on Monday, said he hoped G8 leaders "will feel the force of the gale that hit them on Saturday."
Millions took part in Live 8 rock and pop concerts at 10 venues around the world Saturday which were transmitted live to 140 countries, potentially reaching 85 per cent of the global population. - Sapa-dpa
