Martha Stewart signs TV deal
27/07/2005 10:36 - (SA)
New York - Media and merchandising conglomerate Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc said it has signed with Discovery Communications to rebroadcast home decor guru Stewart's upcoming daytime TV show and air a new home improvement reality series.
The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal, which also gives Discovery the right to distribute some of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's existing shows.
Omnimedia said on Tuesday the deal provides for the Martha television show to be rebroadcast on the US Discovery's The Learning Channel - also known as TLC - each evening on the same day as the original broadcast, syndicated by General Electric Co's NBC Universal. The company expects to launch Martha on September 12.
In addition, Discovery will broadcast a home improvement show in which six women in the middle of large life transitions will work with a member of an Omnimedia design team to renovate their homes.
Stewart, founder of the Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, has been serving a five-month term at her home in Bedford, New York, after recently completing five months in a West Virginia federal prison for lying about a stock sale.
