New York - Michael Pena, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello have been added to the cast of Oliver Stone's upcoming film about the September 11, 2001, terror attacks on the World Trade Centre.

The movie, also starring Nicolas Cage, will be based on the story of two Port Authority police officers who became trapped during rescue efforts after the collapse of the twin towers.

Pena will portray Officer William J Jimeno and Gyllenhaal will play his wife, Allison. Cage will play Sgt John McLoughlin. McLoughlin's wife, Donna, will be played by Bello, Paramount Pictures announced.

McLoughlin and Jimeno are said to be the last two men rescued.

"I was really impressed when I met Will the police motto, 'protect and serve', really means something to him," Pena said.

"All he ever wanted to do is be a cop it's one thing to read that on the page, but another thing to hear him say it."

The movie, expected to be released next year, is not yet titled.

Pena's film credits include Million Dollar Baby and Crash.
