Albright stars in TV sitcom

Los Angeles - Former US secretary of state Madeleine Albright, is breaking new ground in her distinguished career with an acting role on the hit US television sitcom Gilmore Girls, her office said on Tuesday.
The accomplished diplomat and academic, 68, is making her first appearance in a TV show with a guest cameo spot in an episode of the show that will air in the United States next week, the WB network and her office said.
"I am a big fan of Gilmore Girls and I had a great time," said Albright, who recorded the episode on September 30.
"It was an opportunity to do something different for a quick minute, and I learned how hard it is to memorise those lines."
Albright filmed her scene with actress Alexis Bledel who plays Rory Gilmore on the series that has become a fixture of US television.
The episode, entitled Twenty-One Is the Loneliest Number, focuses on an estrangement between leading characters Rory and her mother, Lorelai Gilmore, played by actress Lauren Graham, WB said.
The crew and cast of the show that filmed in Hollywood were awestruck at working with ex-president Bill Clinton's top diplomat, whose cameo follows a similar appearance by famed novelist Norman Mailer.
"If you think she seems brilliant and sassy strutting around the Middle East, you should try talking to her in person," said the show's executive producer Amy Sherman-Palladino.
The Czech-born Albright was US ambassador to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997 and served as secretary of state from January 1997 to January 2001 when Clinton left office.
