  • Los Angeles - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire conjured up top North American box office honours for a third consecutive weekend, according industry figures released on Sunday.

    Encino, California-based Exhibitor Relations Co Inc reported that the fourth instalment in the wildly popular film series, based on JK Rowling's about a boy wizard's coming of age, is estimated to make $20.4m in ticket sales this weekend.

    The film so far has taken in $229.8m across North America.

    The science fiction flick Aeon Flux, set 400 years in the future and starring best actress Oscar winner Charlize Theron as a deadly secret agent, debuted in second place with an estimated gross of $13.1m.

    The Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line fell from second to third place, with $10m in box office receipts.

    Yours, Mine and Ours, a family movie in which a widower coast guard admiral weds a widow handbag designer - to the dismay of her 10 and his eight children - was fourth with $8.4m in ticket sales.

    In fifth place was Just Friends, with $5.9m, a comedy about a man's encounter his old high school crush who rejected him years earlier.

    Rounding out the top 10 were Pride and Prejudice ($4.62m), Rent ($4.6m), Chicken Little ($4.5m), Derailed ($2.4m) and "In the Mix" ($1.9m).

    Final weekend figures are due out on Monday.
