Vanessa-Mae tops young rich list
21/04/2006 09:40  - (SA)

London - Singapore-born electric violinist Vanessa-Mae Nicholson is sitting pretty atop the Sunday Times Rich List for 2006 as Britain's wealthiest entertainer under the age of 30.

Nicholson, 27, who lives in London and is a new entry on the list, has an estimated fortune of £32m, according to the rankings to be published in full this weekend.

"Her album sales now clear eight million worldwide, and together with concert revenues, she is worth £32m - more than enough to indulge her passion for skiing and to pay for the ski lodge she is building in Val d'Isere in the French Alps," the Sunday Times said in a statement.

In second place among young entertainers was Kiera Chaplin, 23, the Belfast-born granddaughter of film legend Charlie Chaplin. Sharing third place, each with £25m, were the four members of rock band Coldplay.

The Sunday Times Rich List profiles the 1 000 richest people and families in Britain. It is based on identifiable wealth such as real estate, plus other assets such as art and racehorses, and shares in publicly listed companies.
