Oprah to the rescue?

Johannesburg - Step aside SAPS.
The country's solution to crime is American talk show queen, Oprah Winfrey.
This is the view of a 37-year-old Free State farmer's wife and mother of three young children.
And about 2 000 people agree.
The woman, a self-confessed Oprah addict who prefers to remain anonymous, started a chain e-mail last week in which she asks South Africans tired of crime to add their names and experiences so that the "plea" could be sent to Winfrey.
"People have tried everything in South Africa, but nothing is stopping the murders, robberies and rapes.
"It doesn't help to make people aware of the problem by wearing black ribbons or complaining in the media about the crime. We realise there's a problem, but who will help us?"
She thinks the answer is the influential talk show host.
"I watch her programme every afternoon and I know she has a soft spot for South Africa.
"I believe she will listen to us if we get enough names on the list. She has the ability to change people's lives."
She is a bit unsure what she thinks Winfrey, who visits South Africa regularly to check on the progress of a girls' school she is sponsoring, can do about crime.
"There's not a single person I know who hasn't been affected. I know I'm sticking out my neck, but somewhere someone has to start doing something."
She said in the e-mail that Winfrey would be asked to "inform the world about what's happening in our fabulous country".
"She's a people's person and cares about her fellow human beings - colour isn't a problem. The world should be informed about what's happening."
"I've previously tried to make contact with Oprah. I regularly send e-mails to inform her how I'm enjoying her programme."
