  • Change the name, says Bon Jovi
  • Los Angeles - Jon Bon Jovi is planning to run for Governor of New Jersey.

The Bon Jovi frontman has indicated he will one day run for office by keeping his home in Red Bank - an artistic community in New Jersey - even though he and his family have moved to SoHo, New York.

A source said: "He is interested in running for governor. That is why he kept the house and performs at fundraisers for Democrats like Al Gore. He has also hired PR guru Ken Sunshine, who used to work for former mayor David Dinkins."

The 45-year-old rocker's representative admitted Bon Jovi has discussed becoming a governor, but insists he is too busy with his music career to get involved in politics.

Ken Sunshine said: "Jon has been approached many times about running for office.

"His day job is going too well, and this way he can keep the house in Red Bank."

Bon Jovi isn't the first celebrity to enter politics. Action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger quit Hollywood to become Governor of California, while Ronald Reagan moved from the big screen to the White House when he became US President.

Earlier this month, Bon Jovi confessed he used to sell marijuana when he was a struggling teenager growing up in New Jersey.

He said: "I did the drug thing very young and wised up very young too, because I was into drugs a little too much.

"I was entrepreneurial even then, buying quarter pounds of dope and trying to make a couple of bucks."

"But I've never been a drug guy. I always felt I didn't have the mental stability."
