Strike: Stone movie put on hold
20/11/2007 11:41 - (SA)
Los Angeles - An Oliver Stone-directed movie about the Vietnam War's My Lai Massacre has been put on hold due to Hollywood's writers strike, it was reported on Monday.
Entertainment industry journal Daily Variety reported that studio United Artists had halted work on the film, Pinkville, which was due to begin shooting in Southeast Asia next month.
United Artists said the film - due to star Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson - had been suspended because Oscar-winner Stone and the film's screenwriter would be unable to make further changes to the script because of the strike.
The movie is the latest to be hit by the dispute.
On Friday, the filming of Angels and Demons, an adaptation of a book by The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown and starring Tom Hanks, was delayed, Sony studios announced in a statement.
Strike 'may last several months'
More than 3 000 film and television writers went on strike on November 5 seeking a bigger cut from internet sales and downloads, on the urgings of the 12 000-member Writers Guild of America (WGA).
The strike is the first by the WGA for nearly 20 years and has plunged the industry into turmoil, halting production on hit television shows like Desperate Housewives and forcing the postponement of 24.
Popular late-night chat shows hosted by Jay Leno and David Letterman have also gone into shutdown this week because of the strike, which industry analysts believe may last several months.
