Maddie: The movie
08/01/2008 17:31 - (SA)
London - The parents of Madeleine McCann are in talks to turn the story of their missing four-year-old daughter into a film, reports in Britain said on Tuesday.
Kate and Gerry McCann, who have launched an unprecedented media campaign over Madeleine, are in negotiations with the talent and entertainment agency, IMG, in a deal which could be worth millions, the Evening Standard newspaper in London said.
The money would help fund the continuing search for Madeleine amid fears that the £1.2 million raised from public donations will soon run out.
The little girl disappeared from the bedroom of a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, on the Algarve in Portugal, on May 3 last year.
While her parents insist that she was abducted, Portuguese police have named the parents official suspects in the ongoing investigations.
The Madeleine Fund set up by the parents is paying £50 000 a month to a Spanish private detective agency employed to look for Madeleine and, as well as financing a massive poster and television advertising campaign in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
It is estimated that at least £500 000 pounds have already been spent.
"We would only get involved with something done sensitively and considerately," a source close to the McCann's said. - dpa
