PGA overlooks Globe winners
15/01/2008 11:02 - (SA)
Los Angeles - Newly crowned Golden Globes best picture winners Atonement and Sweeney Todd were the notable absentees on Monday as nominees for the Producers Guild of America Awards were unveiled.
The PGA Awards, viewed as an important indicator of likely best picture contenders at the Oscars, handed nods to The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Juno, Michael Clayton, No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood.
The PGA will hand out its annual awards on February 2, three weeks before the Academy Awards take place in Hollywood on February 24.
The awards are regarded as Oscars form guide because many PGA members are voters at the Oscars.
The omission of British period drama Atonement, which won best picture at Sunday's Golden Globes, and Sweeney Todd, which took best musical, will fuel speculation that the two may be overlooked for the Oscars.
