Monster movie makes people sick

Los Angeles - Monster movie Cloverfield may have scored a hit at the box-office but the action film's jerky camerawork is leaving audiences suffering from motion sickness, a report said on Thursday.
The film - about a group of young people trying to flee a giant reptile as it rampages through New York - was largely shot with hand-held cameras to give it the feel of a home video, The Los Angeles Times reported.
However the style of the movie, which went straight to the top of the North American box-office after last week's opening, has left many cinema-goers feeling nauseous, the Times reported.
"I'm really nauseous right now - just hold on for a second," the Times quoted audience member Erika Hasegawa as saying after she walked out during the middle of a showing to be sick into a trash can.
"I wish I could get my money back."
Headaches and nausea
Peter Bohlen, 18, told the Times he was still feeling sick a day after watching the film.
"They're trying to go for the home video feel, so it's constantly shaking around," Bohlen said.
"My brain tried to make it work, but it couldn't. I got a pretty heinous headache afterward."
The Times reported that major US cinema chain AMC Theatres had placed signs in hundreds of its outlets nationwide warning about possible motion sickness.
The chief executive of another cinema group, Mann Theatres' Peter Dobson, said there had been four reports of audience members feeling sick in Los Angeles but stressed the vast majority of people had not fallen ill.
"I must confess I was a little surprised, but sometimes from time to time this happens," Dobson said. "It's not normal to get four in a weekend."
"We've shown it to thousands of people this weekend, so the actual percentage of people (who felt ill) is really low," Dobson said.
"We're delighted with the business Cloverfield is doing."
