London - The Swedish supergroup ABBA is enjoying a resurgence in records sales on the back of publicity for the film version of the hit musical Mamma Mia!, the Official UK Charts Company said on Sunday.
The sound track to the film Mamma Mia!, featuring Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and Pierce Brosnan, topped the compilations chart and outsold all other albums in the UK during the past week.
The last time a soundtrack album outsold all others was seven years ago when music from the film Bridget Jones was number one.
The album from the musical Mamma Mia! moved to 19 in the artist album chart.
The 70s supergroup, on whose songs the film and musical are founded, are also enjoying a boost in sales, with the album Gold -- Greatest Hits climbing to number five from 12 in the artist albums chart. It also has two singles in the top 100.
Sweden is enjoying a strong showing with local musician and DJ Jonas Erik Altberg, known by the pseudonym Basshunter, going straight in at number one in the artist album charts with Now You're Gone - the Album.
Coldplay's Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends finally lost top spot after five weeks, falling to two.
Scotland's Sharleen Spiteri, former front singer for the band Texas, was a new entrant at three with Melody.
Another new entrant at nine was veteran singer-songwriter Billy Joel with Piano Man - the Very Best Of.
Topping the singles charts for another week was rapper Dizzee Rascal with Dance Wiv Me, while British band McFly was a new entrant at two with One For the Radio.
