  • McCartney 'a musician forever'
  • McCartney gives 'peace a chance'
  • London - Sir Paul McCartney is worth more than a billion euros, making him the richest British music millionaire by a long shot, according to the Sunday Times rich list published on Friday.

A successful US tour saw the ex-Beatle's wealth grow significantly in the last year from £713 million to £760 million.

The 60-year-old with a reputation for thrift recently asked an English florist for a discount if he paid for a bunch of flowers with cash instead of a credit card.

His fashion designer daughter Stella, 30, has complained that father was a miser for sending her to a free state school instead of a fee-paying private school.

Number two on the musicians' rich list was musical king Andrew Lloyd-Webber, 55, whose wealth shrank by £20 million to £400 million this year as several of his productions on the London stage closed.

Producer Simon Fuller, 42, earned £40 million last year from creating the Pop Idol television format that transferred successfully to Germany and the US and South Africa.

Fuller, who managed the 1990s pop band the Spice Girls, is worth £90 million, putting him at number 21.

Pop singer Robbie Williams, 29 has doubled his financial worth in the last year, going from $pound;35 to 68 million Williams earns songwriting and performing royalties from his many hits. - Sapa-DPA
