Los Angeles - Grammy organisers have taken Janet Jackson's name off the list of presenters for Sunday's annual music awards ceremony in a growing backlash against the exposure of her breast during a prime time television show.
Though no official announcement has been made about axing the singer from the Los Angeles ceremony - the highlight of the US pop year - her name has been taken off official lists distributed by organisers and sponsors.
Jackson was to have handed over an award but the list of presenters is now teen singer and actress Hilary Duff, country star Faith Hill, blues guitarist BB King, soul singer Brian McKnight and rock stars Carlos Santana, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
The Grammys are being broadcast in the United States by CBS which was also forced to apologise after showing singer Justin Timberlake rip off Jackson's bodice to reveal her right breast during the Super Bowl half time show last Sunday.
The Washington Post quoted one source close to the Grammy show as saying "CBS and the Recording Academy are waiting for her to graciously bow out; if she does not soon, they will uninvite her."
Timberlake is still to sing at the Grammys. He has expressed shock at what Jackson has admitted was a stunt.
Jackson has apologised but is still the target of widespread outrage with the Federal Communications Commission launching an investigation into whether indecency regulations have been breached.
ABC television has announced it will delay the live broadcast of this year's Oscars ceremony to avoid a similar stunt.
