Port Elizabeth - An actor in the popular soapie 7de Laan was so badly traumatised by an attack on the Port Elizabeth beachfront on Friday night that he immediately packed his bags and left the city on the earliest possible flight.
Denver Vraagom, better known as Sheldon in the soap, had to appear at an Eastern Cape boerewors competition on Saturday, but returned to Johannesburg immediately after the attack, to be examined by his doctor.
The exact details of what happened on Friday night are still unclear.
It seems as if Vraagom had dinner with other guests at the Boardwalk and was then taken to the Kelway hotel in Brookes Hill.
He went for a walk on the beach at about 23:30 and became the umpteenth victim of a violent attack on the Port Elizabeth beachfront.
Superintendent Johann van Greunen, police spokesperson, said on Sunday that no charge was filed at the Humewood police station.
Vraagom and his co-star, Ingrid Paulus (Vanessa) became the parents of a baby girl, Skye Amber Rose, on Tuesday morning.
They got engaged at a jazz festival in Cape Town last year.
A family member of Paulus confirmed that family and friends were informed about the attack.
"Ingrid is still very tired after the birth of her baby at this stage and does not want to comment," the family member said.
Elsa Kruger, spokesperson for 7de laan, was not aware of the attack.
The weekend's attack is the latest in a spate of attacks that started last year and led to closed-circuit cameras being set-up on the beach.
Phumeza Mgxashe, spokesperson for Nelson Mandela Bay tourism, said it was a pity that Vraagom did not file a complaint with police, because the criminals would now get away with it.
