Hanks in 'political scandal'

Los Angeles - Double Oscar-winner Tom Hanks will find himself at the centre of a political scandal involving sex, drugs and alcohol after signing on to play a wayward United States politician in his next movie.
The Forrest Gump and Apollo 13 superstar has signed on to star in Charlie Wilson's War for Universal Pictures in which he will play a real-life rogue Texas congressman dubbed "Good Time Charlie" by detractors.
The film, Charlie Wilson's War, will be written by West Wing author Aaron Sorkin, will be produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman, according to Daily Variety.
Wilson saw his political career almost disintegrate in the early 1980s when he was caught in a hot tub tryst with two cocaine-sniffing showgirls in Las Vegas.
But he survived and went on to overseeing the largest the US operation to covertly fund Afghan resistance fighters in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan. The film is based on a book by George Crile.
The movie is scheduled to begin filming next spring after Hanks completes The Da Vinci Code, which he is currently making in Paris.
