New York - Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former United States president Bill Clinton and current senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, has a new boyfriend.

People magazine reported on Monday on its website that the 25-year-old former first daughter is dating Marc Mezvinsky, 27, son of a fellow Democratic politician, former US representative Ed Mezvinsky of Iowa.

The couple, who both studied at California's Stanford University and have known each other since their teens, were seen together in Las Vegas in October but made their romance public with affectionate appearances in New York this month.

"They're best friends who fell in love," one of Chelsea Clinton's friends told the magazine.

She broke up with long-time boyfriend Ian Klaus over the summer.

She works as a consultant for the management-consulting firm McKinsey and Co while Mezvinsky works for Goldman Sachs. - Sapa-dpa
