London - A "spare" wedding dress made for Britain's Princess Diana's fairytale wedding to Prince Charles was auctioned for £100 000 (R1.2 million) on Wednesday.
An anonymous telephone bidder snapped up the copy of the ivory silk taffeta creation.
The dress was seen by a worldwide television audience of 750 million at St Paul's Cathedral, London, on July 29 1981.
The replica - complete with its 7.62m train - was created by designers Elizabeth and David Emmanuel, and given to London waxwork museum Madame Tussauds.
The dress went under the hammer at north London auction house Cooper Owen.
