Jolie sets the record straight
10/01/2007 15:02 - (SA)
Angelina Jolie is furious about claims she criticised Madonna for adopting a Malawian child.
The actress insists she was misquoted by the French magazine that interviewed her.
Ange, who herself has two adopted kiddies, is quoted as saying that Madge should have known better than to adopt a child from a country where doing so is illegal.
However, the Tomb Raider star claims her words were twisted, and that all the positive things she said were left out.
"The article included many falsehoods," she says. "I said many positive things that were omitted.
"I feel we must focus on the present and I encourage everyone to be supportive so that every child can adjust nicely to their new home."
In the interview, Gala magazine quoted her as saying: "Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where David was born.
"It's a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption.
"Personally I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal."
Angelina and her partner Brad Pitt have a biological daughter, Shiloh, and two adopted children; Maddox, from Cambodia, and Zahara, from Ethiopia.
She has a lot of sympathy for Madonna, adding: "I have been horrified by the attacks she's been subjected to."
